Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Provisions

ADA states that paratransit service is meant to be complementary to the fixed route system in terms of service area, service days, and service hours, and cost. The following are provisions of the ADA:

  • ADA requires paratransit service to be provided to areas within ¾ of a mile from a fixed route in municipalities participating in fixed route system.  Green Bay METRO goes beyond the ADA mandate and provides paratransit to all areas within participating municipalities.
  • ADA requires that clients call the paratransit provider, Medi-Vans, at least the day preceding their requested pick up time. Same day requests will not be honored.
  • ADA allows Medi-Vans the opportunity to negotiate a trip pick up time within on hour of the time requested by the client. Please note that 7:30 AM to 9:00 AM and 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM are the most requested pick up times.
  • ADA allows Medi-Vans to arrive between 15 minutes prior to and 15 minutes past the scheduled pick up time. For example; if your trip is scheduled for 1:00 PM, Medi-Vans can arrive between 12:45 PM and 1:15 PM. ADA considers this “on-time”. Therefore passengers are asked to be ready to go 15 minutes prior to the scheduled pick-up time. In addition, METRO requires Medi-Vans to arrive for the scheduled pick-up within this 30-minute window 95% of the time. METRO does allow for 5% of the trips to be late. Late trips can me the result of many different factors, some of which are not in control of the provider. For instance, trains, boats, traffic, road construction, and weather can cause unexpected delays. In some cases, clients are not always ready to go when Medi-Vans drivers arrive which can delay other pick-ups.
  • ADA requires paratransit trip lengths of no more than 60 minutes. However, Medi-Vans should attempt to group passengers on vehicles to the maximum practical extent consistent with the law.
  • ADA allows Medi-Vans to provide “basic” curb-to-curb” service.  Medi-Vans will provide “premium” door-to-door service for an additional fee.
